Project Assessor (June-August
2006) in Mindanao, Southern Philippines, for Nonviolent Peaceforce,
an international NGO specialising in civilian peacekeeping. The assessment
probed the need for deployment of international civilian peacekeepers in
selected war-prone parts of Mindanao. It was based on extensive consultations
with local civil society, armed actors and international organisations active

district of eastern Sri Lanka for Nonviolent
Peaceforce resided in
Valachchenai, a conflict-ridden village, and worked on sensitive issues
of civilian protection, human rights and expansion of political space for
civil society in a war-devastated setting.
Intern with the Department of
Protection, International Rescue Committee,
New
York from January 2003 to April 2003. I was involved in making arrangements
for protection roundtables for participants from humanitarian
organisations at IRC Headquarters. I created an
annotated bibliography of relevant protection articles and other resources
pertaining to refugees and IDPs for distribution

America. I worked on a weekly basis with the Director, Hope Wallis, in two
major projects, viz. Dissemination of Information-Technology skills to the
‘Lost Boys’ of Sudan and Statistical Data Surveys on Sudanese and
Somali refugees for the purpose of application to a $175,000 grant from
the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Washington D.C. I also engaged in research
for humanitarian affairs grants relevant to refugee needs and integration into
local communities in the Central New York area.
